Part 2 How to Properly Care for Suede Shoes and Clogs
- If you get your clogs wet, make sure to dry them off as quickly as possible. Use paper towels or a clean cotton towel and blot off the excess moisture. You can use a hairdryer on the cool temperature and low setting to help speed up the drying process. Stuff paper towels or a rolled up cotton washcloth inside each shoe and let them soak up extra moisture too. Do NOT place your shoes outside in direct sunlight, don’t toss them into the dryer and never place them on a radiator to help speed up the drying process.
- Suede and leather are sensitive to drastic temperature changes. Do not store your items in a hot attic, a damp basement or in the trunk of your car. Direct sunlight and heat can cause fading and cracking of the leather. Extreme cold can cause cracking and peeling.
- Do not store your leather footwear items on metal shoe racks that insert a metal piece inside of the shoe. These storage options can misshapen the shoe! For long-term or seasonal storage, place them in appropriate shoe boxes and store them underneath your bed, the floor of your closet or on a shelf.
- Suede and leather can hold odors. You’ll want to deodorize your shoes several times every year, depending on how often you wear them and how badly your feet sweat. You can buy a commercial shoe deodorizer or sprinkle baking soda into your shoes. Shake out before wearing them again.
Caring for your suede shoes does not have to be difficult. Simply keep the tools needed on hand, like a brush and waterproofing spray, and be quick to clean and dry off mud and moisture.
